Staffordshire Tankard ca. 1740

$ 23.00

This new tankard is a copied of one excavated from Wetherburn's Tavern, Williamsburg, Va. circa 1740 (Height of original, 6 1/4" )  My copies are Approx. 5" tall.  16-18oz.  In keeping with the original, the tankard is white with an iron oxide brown lip.  Several English potteries produced similar tankards for export during the 18th century.

This tankard was imported into the colonies from Staffordshire, England during the mid to second half of the 18th century.   My tankards will range from very white to a light grey.  This variation is due to the clay body used,  which is dependent on the raw materials available to me.   Thanks for stopping to look.
